Tons of steel to check

Customs officers from 9 countries: Croatia, Slovakia, Poland, Sweden, Hungary, Germany, Belgium, Greece and Romania participated in CELBET Train Search training, held from 8 to 10 of October in Daugavpils, Latvia.

The curriculum of the training was following:

  • railway infrastructure and technology of Indra BCP
  • searching techniques
  •  risk assessment
  • railway documents
  • customs control equipment
  •  inspection at real border crossing point

On a first day, trainees visited Daugavpils Locomotive Repair Plant, the biggest company in Baltic States which overhauls and modernizes rolling stock.

Why tranining was organized in Daugavpils ?

Because CELBET has established Center of Expertise on train search there. This is one of the CELBET 7 Centers of Expertise and it has the best infrastructure and most experienced trainers in the field of train’s inspection.

Second day was dedicated to practical part on Indra border crossig point. Trainers presented border monitoring system and x-ray device with a procurement information. Additionally, one of the Indra officer, showed how drone can be effectively used for customs purposes.

Daugavpils border crossing point was another localization of the training agenda. All trainees were divided into groups and had to inspect the train, coming from Belarus.

Thanks to CELBET training Center of Expertise system, all trainees have a chance to check vehicles in a real border environment. During the inspection of cast iron,  customs officers from Poland and Belgium detected 500 packages of cigarettes.

During inspection of the grain wagon, trainees were secured by harness and assisted by customs officer from Daugavpils BCP.
